In the fall of 2013 a happy coincidence of factors came together that allowed me to make a significant change to my health and fitness. I discovered intermittent fasting and decided to try it, intrigued by the ‘repair mode’ or autolysis that the body initiates when fasting. By my birthday in December I had reached my goal of losing about 35 pounds to get back to 160. Over the next year I lost another 10 pounds and my weight has stayed between 145 and 155 pounds since then. I’ve learned a great deal about nutrition, eating, and the biochemistry of our bodies through this journey. My hope is to consolidate some of this material here.
In October 2013 I decided to give running “one last try”. My goal was to become an ‘able-to-runner’, someone who could run 5km when required. I was hoping that I’d be able to get fast enough so that I could run with my wife Susan if she decided to slow down a bit for me. I plan to consolidate some material that documents my journey in the hope that it will help and inspire others.
